Fact ! There are asset limits - in order to qualify for Medicaid the applicants accountable assets must be equal to or less than $1500.

Fact !  There are countable assets for Medicaid.  They are reviewed and assessed on an individual basis.

Fact ! There are exempt assets - To the extent an asset is exempt, it will not be counted in determining Medicaid eligibility.  They will vary... but generally are:

· Home

· Household belongings

· One wedding ring

· One engagement ring

· Auto up to $4500 of your equity

· Cash value of life insurance, if face value is less than $1500

· Value of burial plots

· Irrevocable pre-need funeral contract

· Up to $6000 of equity in income property if the property is essential for the support of the applicant or spouse

· Pension plans that can't be cashed in by the applicant

· Annuities

· Assets that are unavailable or unable to be sold.
