Part of the creativity involved in making your Buddies keepsake is determining how to best capture your pet’s prints. No one knows your animal better than you, so feel free to improvise the following instructions as needed.

Please read and carefully follow the instructions on the order card so that we may produce a quality casting.

Ink Kit Instructions

Step 1. Gather some scrap paper on which to take practice prints. Clean and dry the paw or nose being printed.

Step 2. Remove the ink strip from the order card. Carefully peel back the top sheet and place either sheet ink side up. Placing the ink strip on a clip board or taping it to a firm surface such as an old magazine works well.

Step 3. Move the ink pad to the animal, gently tapping it on the paw or nose ( if allowed) two to three times.

Step 4. Bring the scrap paper to the inked paw or nose and gently touch it. Repeat this process until you are satisfied with the look of the practice prints. Now re-ink the paw or nose and create fresh prints on the order card or a clean index card.

Simply staple the best prints to the order card. Meadow Hill’s artisans will select the best print for casting and will “clean up” unwanted hair lines outside the pad areas.

Step 5. Using a wet paper towel, clean off the ink. Place all the scraps and ink strips in the trash.

Step 6. Fill out the required information for engraving and shipping on the reverse side of the order card. Place the order card in the self-addressed envelope and mail it to Meadow Hill.

Tips for taking Great Prints

Choose the time of the day when your animal is the most content (perhaps right after eating).

Practice the motions of taking the print without using the ink, so your pet becomes familiar with the idea and thinks of it as play.

When ready to use the ink, work in an area where an errant print can easily be cleaned.

Do not concern yourself about hair lines on the print: they will be digitally removed.
