Frank Carl Godic, age 63, passed away peacefully at home with his family
by his side Feb. 2, 2012, after a courageous two-year battle with
esophageal cancer. He was born Nov. 3, 1948, in Cleveland to Frank
and Caroline Godic.
Frank was a 1967 graduate of Mentor High School. He married the love of
his life, Laurie Shannon Aug. 14, 1971, who eventually became a great
caretaker for Frank.
Frank worked for Babcock & Wilcox in Euclid as an IT professional. The
best times in his life were when he was with his wife and children, and
he particularly enjoyed coaching both of his children in youth sports.
He was a huge fan of any Mentor High athletic team as well as all the
local professional sports teams, especially the Browns, who he had
season tickets for over 25 years.
Throughout these past two years, the special attention that was shown
him by the staff at Ireland Cancer Center, particularly his chemo nurses
Terry, Karen and Sharon, touched his heart. Frank became involved in and
gained much support from The Gathering Place and their Tuesday night
support group.
The Ohio State Buckeyes held a special place in his heart ever since he
was a child. He lived and died with many of their teams. The family
requests, if possible, anyone attending calling hours wear something to
honor his love of the Buckeyes. (Yes, even Michigan fans.)
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Laurie (Shannon); daughter,
Jaclyn; and son, Gregory; and sisters, Beverly Zazac and Rosemary
Miller. Both of his parents are deceased.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday February 7, 2012 at
Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor
Ave., Mentor, OH 44060.
The family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Gathering
