Graveside service was held at Mentor Cemetery for Sylvia Jean (Cannella) James, 83, a longtime resident of Mentor, formerly of Phoenix, Ariz. Mrs. James died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Mentor Way Care Center in Mentor.
She was born Oct. 5, 1924, in Youngstown.

She was a homemaker who worked as a clerk for the former ADC Development Corp., in Mentor, retiring in 1980. She loved crafts, ceramics, basket weaving, cooking and baking.

Survivors are her daughters, Donna (Randall Boehm) Childers-Boehm of Mentor and Debra (Thomas) Conner of Mentor; sons, Charles "Sonny" (Terry) Shingledecker of Mentor and Paul (Patricia) Deck of Kirtland; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Judith; infant son; first husband, Charles Shingledecker; second husband, Fred James; and parents, Joseph and Amelia Cannella.

The family suggests contributions be made to Monarch School for Autism @ Bellefaire JCB, Attn: Elizabeth Ruttenberg, 22001 Fairmount Blvd., Shaker Heights, OH 44118. Arrangements are entrusted to Brunner Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Mentor.
