Charles W. "Chuck" Austin

May 16, 1936 - March 23, 2022

Charles W. “Chuck” Austin, 85 of Painesville Twp., passed away Wednesday March 23, 2022 at UH Tri-Point Medical Center, Concord. He was born May 16, 1936 in Cleveland to the late J.W. and Florence Austin. He grew up in the Cleveland (eastside) and Collinwood areas. Chuck spent 37 years as a Letter Carrier at the Mentor Post Office, retiring in 2000. He assisted in the annual National Association of Letter Carriers Annual Food Drive even after retirement. He was a proud member of Branch 4195 of the National Association of Letter Carriers for 58 years. Chuck was a lifelong Mickey Mouse fan, a constant visitor to Walt Disney World, and after retirement worked at local Disney Stores. Chuck enjoyed golfing with anyone and everyone. He enjoyed camping and traveling throughout the United States. Chuck was active at St. Bede the Venerable Church in Mentor, participating in several programs and cooking sauerkraut at Bingo, on Monday nights until they closed Bingo. He later became a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Mentor. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Painesville Council #947 and 4th Degree Assembly 837. Chuck was very active in the Annual Corvette Raffles, Lenten Fish Fry, Golf League and many charitable activities of the council. Although he was unable to serve in the armed forces, he was very proud of his 3 children, 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, who served in the Marine Corps, Army and Navy. Survivors include his wife of 66 years: Carol (Lasicky) Austin; children: Carol Austin, Charles (Marie) Austin, Craig (Chris) Austin and Cary (Angela) Austin; grandchildren: Matthew and Lisa Adams, Jeremy Austin, Jessica (James) Reed, Regina Patterson, Dougie (Amanda) Patterson, Ryan Patterson, Cory (Ashley) Austin, Casey Austin, Brandon, Brianna and Brody Austin; great grandchildren; Cody (Shania), Darius, Leland, Jordynn, Josie, Joseph, Sheamus and Luna and sisters: Joan Novak and Beverly Cowgill. Preceding Chuck in death are his brothers in law and sister in law: Joseph (Fay) Lasicky, John Novak and Wayne Cowgill. The family will receive friends 2:00 – 5:00 pm Sunday, March 27, 2022 at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave. Mentor, OH. The funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2022 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 8560 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH. Please meet at the church.
