Elizabeth Ella (Hanna) Weiss

November 11, 1920 - January 26, 2022

Elizabeth Ella (Hanna) Weiss was born November 11, 1920 in her grandparents' home in Livonia, New York. Her parents were George Eugene Hanna and Ruth Lucretia Becker. She grew up with her brother, Sherwood Becker Hanna (Thelma) on the family farm in Lakeville, New York. She kept busy skating and sledding in winter, swimming in Conesus Lake, singing in a glee club, playing saxophone in the band and participating in 4H. Elizabeth graduated from the University of Rochester with a B.S. in Nursing. She worked at Strong Memorial Hospital and as a visiting nurse until she met Michael Weiss. They were married March 25, 1950 in Lakeville, NY. After living in Schenectady, NY for a time, they moved to Lyndhurst, OH. For several years Elizabeth worked part time as a nurse at UH of Cleveland and then volunteered at Booth Memorial Hospital. She sang in the church choir and was a member of the Lydia church women's group. She cooked, sewed clothes for her children, knitted sweaters, hats and mittens, planted beautiful flower gardens and prepared wonderful Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations for the family. Some of the most memorable times were family camping trips each summer to visit family and national parks and historic sites around the country. She and Michael were frequent spectators at children's and grandchildren's sporting events and concerts. She enjoyed playing the piano, attending Cleveland Orchestra concerts, swimming, traveling, bike riding, hiking in parks, cross-country skiing and golfing into her 90s. Elizabeth died January 26, 2022 at the age of 101. She is survived by Michael, her husband of 71 years, children, David Michael Weiss (Ann Strmac), Susan Patricia (Weiss) Stuber (Thomas Stuber), and Nancy Jean (Weiss) Campbell (Philip Campbell), seven grandchildren, D.J. Weiss (Jenny), Daniel Weiss (Lydia), Gregory Stuber (Suzie), Kristen Stuber, Paul Campbell (Lora), Samuel Campbell (Katie), and Colin Campbell (Alexandra), nine great grandchildren, Alexis Weiss, Cameron Weiss, Dalton Stuber, Gavin Stuber, Malachi Snyder, Heather Campbell, Holly Campbell, Lily Campbell, and Laurel Campbell, and several nieces and nephews. Elizabeth gave completely of herself to care for her family and home. She was truly the best example of a wife and mother there could be. Private family services were held in honor of Elizabeth’s life with interment taking place in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chesterland. Arrangements entrusted to the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Elizabeth’s memory to The Raptor Center, Carlisle Visitor Center, 12882 Diagonal Road, LaGrange, OH 44050 Please offer condolences at www.brunners.com.
