Lanette Spisak

May 4, 1946 - March 4, 2022

On March 4, 2022, Lanette Spisak went to heaven surrounded by her daughters and three youngest grandchildren. Angels accompanied Lanette to eternal life and reunited her with her one true love and soul mate, Joe Spisak, who preceded her in death by a mere 36 days. Lanette was born on May 4, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio to Ida (Calori) and John Vinci. She graduated from Warrensville Heights High School in 1964, took correspondence classes and received her accreditation in medical record administration. Lanette married Joseph Spisak on December 9, 1967, and they immediately moved to Honolulu, Hawaii where Joe was stationed until he was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1969. Once state-side, Lanette began her decade’s long career in the health care industry. She started in the Medical Records department at Suburban Hospital and worked her way up to director of Quality Assurance at Hillcrest Hospital—without any formal training! Additionally, she worked for insurance companies and in physicians’ offices. Lanette has been an active member of St. Mary of the Assumption parish in Mentor for nearly 5 decades—teaching Sunday morning preschool and pre-baptismal classes and participating in Renewal and summer festivals. Lanette and Joe had two daughters, Jennifer Spisak (John) Cameron and Christina (Ken) Skilton; five grandchildren Michael Skilton (fiancée Natalee Langton), Rachel (Sean) Meabon, Jenna Skilton, Ian Cameron and Gracye Cameron; and three great-grandchildren John Paul, Isaiah and Marianna Meabon. In November 2019, Lanette’s biggest fear was realized when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Then, in December 2021, she was also diagnosed with lymphoma and leukemia, the diseases that ultimately took her life. The family will receive friends to celebrate Lanette’s life from 5-9 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2022 at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. A funeral mass in honor of Lanette will be held 12 noon Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 8560 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060 (Please meet at the church.) Private family inurnment will be held in Mentor Cemetery at a later date.
