July 7, 1923 - January 18, 2021
Phoebe “Pat” Murphy, 97, of Painesville, formerly of Mentor, passed away Monday, January 18, 2021 at Lake Med, Painesville. She was born July 7, 1923 in Rinard, IA., to the late Ralph and Hazel Jamison. Phoebe or Pat, as she liked to be called, spent her childhood in the farmland of Iowa. Her mother left the family when Phoebe was four years old. She was cared for by her father, grandmother and aunts. After she finished high school, she bravely went to Long Beach, California and worked at Douglas Aircraft. She was a Rosie the Riveter supporting the WW2 effort, making planes. There she met Marine Corporal Francis “Murph” Murphy. When the war was over, she married Murph and they lived in Wickliffe, Ohio. She was the mother of four children. She was a protective, caring mother of her children, every day. She met challenges bravely, taking care of her special needs boys and advocating for their rights. She never gave up. She will be missed by her family and her care givers. They described her as feisty. Survivors include her children, Cindy (Jim) Webster, Patrick Murphy and Kevin “Charlie” Murphy; grandchildren, Rachel (John McCarthy) Jamison Webster and Douglas D. (Lindsey Dalrymple-Webster) Webster; great grandchildren, Adele and Gwyneth; close family friend, Debra Salter and many nieces, nephews and other loving family members. Preceding Pat in death are her ex-husband, Francis Murphy; son, Jimmy Murphy and sisters, Cynthia Erskine and Cynara Erskine. Private family services were held, with burial taking place in Mentor Cemetery. Contributions may be made in memory of Pat to Deepwood Foundation, 8121 Deepwood Boulevard, Mentor, Ohio 44060. Arrangements entrusted to the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. Please offer condolences at www.brunners.com.
