Phil F. French, age 75, of Mentor for the past 43 years
(formerly of Cleveland), died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at TriPoint Medical
Center in Concord Township. He was born June 17, 1934, in Cleveland.
Mr. French was a custodian for the City of Mentor at the Civic Center, where
he worked as the Zamboni operator at the ice rink before his retirement in
2002. Prior to working for the City of Mentor, he was a foreman at Hawthorne
Melody Dairy in Cleveland for 27 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and a founding member of the Amvets post 40,
where he enjoyed being a part of sad sacks. Spending time with his family
was especially important to him.
Survivors are his children, Lynn D. and Barbara A. French of Mentor, Dwayne
A. French of Madison, and Rose M. (Brian J.) Wittkamp of Colorado Springs,
Colo.; grandchildren, Phillip A. (fiance Amanda Walker) French, Jennifer
M. (Tommy) Kvoriak, Clinton C. and Tyler Ray Gibson and Braeden Schindly;
great-grandchildren, Colin and Raegan Kvoriak; sister, Sarah Grab of
Washington; and son-in-law, Brian Schindly of Mentor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Rae French; daughter, Elizabeth
Schindly; and parents, Phil S. and Sylvia French.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday February 23, 2010 at Brunner
Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, where the family
will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. Interment will be at Mentor
Cemetery in Mentor.
