Edwin Opatrny, age 87, a lifelong resident of Wickliffe, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Willoughby.  He was born Dec. 10, 1922, in Cleveland.

He enjoyed watching baseball and basketball, and spending time with his grandchildren was especially important to him.

Mr. Opatrny was a machinist at Warner and Swasey for 18 years prior to his retirement in 1980.

Survivors are his sons, Ken (Phyllis) Opatrny of Mentor, Dennis (June) Opatrny of Mentor and Karl (Kathleen Blanc) Opatrny of Kirtland; grandchildren, Sami, Lexi, Anthony, Christopher, Annie and Kyle Opatrny; and sister, Geraldine Branstein of Willowick.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne A. Opatrny; brother, Norbert; and parents, Edward and Julia Opatrny.

Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday February 11, 2010 at Brunner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, where the family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.

The family suggests contributions be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 E. 185th St., Cleveland, Oh 44119.
