Darryl Jones

Darryl Jones, 86, of Mentor, formerly of Willoughby Hills, and Euclid, died November 10, 2021 at Danbury Senior Assisted Living in Mentor. He was born July 14, 1935 in Cleveland. Darryl worked for 39 years at The Ohio Bell Telephone Company before his retirement in 1990. He held various positions and always attributed his success to help of his fellow teammates who exemplified the spirit of Ma Bell. Throughout his life Darryl enjoyed spending time with family and friends, travel, and reading or listening to books. Darryl was passionate about family and always enjoyed attending family events. He took his family on many vacation trips. A highlight was a 50th anniversary trip to Hawaii with Mary Lou. After close friends taught him how to fish, he took great pleasure teaching his sons to fish and taking his family on fishing trips to Ohio State parks. Early in retirement he enjoyed working at a hardware store. Later he served a number of years on the board of the Governors Place Condominium Owners Association. During that time he worked to update the association rules and improve the properties. Survivors include his sons, David (Mary Jane) Jones and Douglas Jones; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Megan) Eagan-Jones, Cynthia (Tim) Rogers and Rebecca Jones; and his great grandchildren, Alexander and Elijah; niece, Pat (Anthony) Batary; and nephew, Rev. Louis Phillips He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Lou Jones; parents, David and Mary Jane Jones; and his sister, Mavis Bires. A funeral service in honor of Darryl will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2021 at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. The family will receive friends to celebrate Darryl’s life from 1:30 – 4 p.m. on Sunday following the service at the funeral home. Private family inurnment will be held in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon. In lieu of flowers and in the spirit of the season, contributions may be made in memory of Darryl to Salvation Army of Painesville, Ohio or a charity of one’s choice.
