John William Gallagher Jr.

John William Gallagher Jr., aged 65, of Hillsborough, NC, and formerly of Mentor, Ohio, passed away on December 1, 2023. Born on September 4, 1958, in Atlanta, Georgia and living most of his life in Northeast Ohio. John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, known for his warmth, generosity, and spirited love of life. He leaves behind his cherished wife, Mary Gallagher (nee: Comer); his devoted father, John William Gallagher Sr.; and his loving children, Sean (Madeline) Gallagher, Colin (Caitlyn) Gallagher, and Brian (Rachel) Gallagher. He was a proud grandfather to Maeve, Jack, and Haley. John’s memory will also be treasured by his siblings, Jennifer Lansdale, Daniel (Jacque) Gallagher, Russell (Janis) Gallagher, and James (Colleen) Gallagher, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were touched by his kind spirit. John’s life was rich with passions and pursuits. He was an avid player of handball and racquetball at the YMCA. His adventurous spirit shone through in his sailing conquests across the Great Lakes, alongside his father, brothers, friends, and eventually his sons, racking up too many regatta wins to count. John enjoyed golfing with friends and was a passionate arborist, dedicated to the care and preservation of trees. In his professional life, John was a respected engineer, dedicating over 20 years to CR Bard. His expertise and leadership were instrumental in scaling the company’s manufacturing capabilities, particularly in the production of specialty medical devices. John’s commitment to his work and the impact of his contributions in the medical field are lasting legacies of his career. Preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Gallagher, John’s legacy is one of love, adventure, and a deep connection to the natural world. Private family services were held on December 11th.
