Joseph Gudel

Joseph Gudel age 91 of Fairport Harbor, OH, died peacefully due to natural causes on Wednesday April 8, 2020 at Concord Village Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation, Concord Twp., OH. He was born November 25, 1928 in Cleveland, OH. Mr. Gudel was a retired Tool & Die Maker from GM. Joseph was a US Navy WWII Veteran. He was a former member of St. Felicitas Parish. He enjoyed traveling, camping, and playing handball. Football was his favorite sport to watch, especially the Browns and Ohio State. He enjoyed hosting and being a part of social gatherings with family and friends. His wit, charm, and humor was very contagious. He loved to flatter people but especially himself. Joe was very knowledgeable. He loved sharing many stories about his experiences with his grandchildren who adored him. He might even sing an old navy song for you. Joe loved old-school country songs and polkas. He was the best polka dancer around. His wife, Betty, was his greatest dance partner in life. He loved her dearly. He knew how blessed he was to have such a large, loving family. Growing old is truly a gift. Survivors include his children: Constance “Connie” (Mike) Ocepek, Deborah “Debbie” (John) Laseak and Joseph V. (Kathleen) Gudel, grandchildren: Nichole (Hunter Reed) Ocepek, Shannon, John “J.J.”, Margo and Kurt Laseak, Kelley (Kevin) Heine and Joseph Gudel (Andrea Kinzer), great-grandchildren: Norah and Emma Heine. Preceding Joseph in death are his wife of 47 years: Elizabeth “Betty” Gudel, grandson: Adam Ocepek, parents: Vincent and Anna Gudelauckas, siblings: Anna Waitinas, Veronica Gudelauckas, Helen Paglio, Jennette Wortell, Mary Cindric, Charles, Stanley, Vincent, and Victor (Ty) Gudel (Gudelauckas). With the current COVID-19 public gathering restrictions, a private family service is being held at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060.
