Judy Hagey

Judy (Carlson) Hagey, age 82, of Panama, NY and Mentor, OH, passed in her sleep Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Governor's Pointe, Mentor, OH. She was born October 19, 1940 in Cleveland, OH. Judy was a 1958 graduate of Mentor High School and was highly involved serving on the student council as a Senior officer, homeroom secretary, and treasurer, she also worked on the school papers Com-Mentor and Hi-lites as a typist, and the Annual staff as both a feature staff member and typist. She was also a member of the Girls Athletic Association, The National Honor Society, senior girls’ ensemble, magazine drive, the junior play and was on the Homecoming Court with her best friend Loretta. After graduating Judy worked as a secretary at the former Mentor Elementary School, until the birth of her children. Judy was a homemaker for many years. As the boys grew, John and Judy established Hagey Floor and Wallcovering, Inc. and she assisted with the office operations including bookkeeping until they retired together. Judy married her high school sweetheart John Hagey on June 24, 1960 and the couple was blessed with 59 years of happiness together. The couple shared a love that was evident in everything they did. Judy and John were lovingly known as Mom and Pops. The couple was known for their fun loving nature, kindness and love for everyone they met. Judy’s senior quote “eternal beauty wandering on her way” (William Butler Yeats) was a prediction of what was to come. Judy enjoyed adventuring with her husband and best friend, John. They took their sons on adventures and camping trips to Yellowstone, falling in love with nature they later bought a cabin that left its legacy on all who came. The couple loved spending time at their cabin in New York with family and friends. The couple retired to their cabin in New York in 2004 and were snowbirds to Gulfport, FL for five years, before returning to Mentor, OH to be closer to their sons and families. Judy lived by simple rules: “If it's not fun don’t do it” and “Live a life you're proud to love”. Judy loved her life and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She will be remembered for her humor, antics and as the life of the party. In death she is reunited with her love, John, and most likely enjoying a glass of Vella delicious white wine on heaven's porch. Judy is survived by sons: John (Connie) Hagey Jr. and Jeff (Gina) Hagey, grandchildren: Rachael (Kurt Nageotte), Kyle, Amber (Justin Fumic), Brandon and Danielle (Matt) Hamsher, great-granddaughters: Hunter Rose Nageotte, Avalynn, Madison, and Peyton Hamsher, sister in law: Martha (Douglas) Smith, nephews: Stephen (Jackie) Preckler and Philip Preckler. Preceding Judy in death is her husband: John "Pops" Hagey, parents: Nels and Louise (Palmer) Carlson and brother-in-law: Gary Preckler. A celebration of Judy's & Pop’s lives will be scheduled for a later date.
