Michael M. Kohn

Michael M. Kohn passed away on April 29, 2019, at the age of 78. He was born on December 20, 1940 in Cleveland, OH to the late Stanley and Louella Dortch Kohn. Mike’s high school years were spent at Carson Long Military Academy in New Bloomfield, PA. He attended Kent State University where he served as president of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity and met his future wife, Donna. After starting his career at Polsky’s Department Store in Akron, he joined the family business as they opened Concord Manor Furniture in Mentor. He later established the design firm, M. Kohn Interiors, creating many beautiful residential and commercial spaces. He ended his career as a sales representative for the Duralee Fabric Company which enabled him to experience the life of traveling and meeting new friends along the way. Mike was a member of Gyro of the Western Reserve and Madison Country Club where he enjoyed golfing, dancing, and socializing with friends. An avid sportsman, he spent many winter days with friends and family skiing the slopes of Holiday Valley in Ellicottville, N.Y, where he served as a volunteer in the adapted ski program. In retirement, he loved working in his garden and playing tennis at the World Tennis Club in Naples, FL. Mike is survived by his wife, Donna (Miller) Kohn; son, Michael (Wendy), daughter, Carey (Andrew) Cusimano; grandchildren, Jake and Mason Kohn, Emma and Charlie Cusimano; sister, Patti Kohn Ferris; sister-in-law, Marilyn Torres; brother-in-law, Naaman Torres; nephews, David, Edward, and William Ferris, and many cherished friends. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the Signal Hospice team and to the staff of Homestead II in Painesville for providing outstanding care for Mike during his last months. The family will receive friends from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2019 at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. A memorial service to conclude the gathering will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. A time of food and fellowship for those in attendance at the memorial service will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday in the Reception Center on property at the funeral home.
