Robert "Bob" Suydam

Robert (Bob) Suydam, 96, of Concord Twp., passed away October 22, 2023 at Vista Springs Quail Highlands, Concord Twp. He was born December 20, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Marvin and Servilas Suydam. After Graduating from Shaw High School in 1944, Bob served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines, Japan and Korea. He subsequently attended Miami University. Bob enjoyed 47 years of employment with Reliance Electric, ultimately serving as Purchasing Manager, a position that provided opportunities to travel internationally and form lifelong friendships with colleagues and suppliers. Bob was a talented baseball pitcher, certified ski patrolman and an avid golfer; he continued to enjoy the latter into his 90’s. Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Bob would agree that he was a good man – a devoted husband, father and grandfather, a person of great faith and high principals, and a loyal friend. Always an “ambassador”, he was courteous and kind to everyone he met and generous of spirit, understanding and non-judgmental. Bob Suydam was a good man who enjoyed life to the fullest. The world is poorer for his passing. Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Faith Suydam; children, Mark (Jenny) Suydam and Keley (Mark) Meredith; grandchildren, Stacey (Jeff), Brian and Ken (Rachel); great grandchildren, Julian, Elias, Lyall, Mira, Crew and Saige and many nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends. Preceding Robert in death are his siblings, Ruth, Dick and Ray. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 2, 2023 at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, Ohio 44060. A memorial mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 3, 2023 at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, 9925 Johnnycake Ridge Rd., Concord, Ohio 44077. Please meet at the church.
