Yvonne A. (nee Sayre) Riedel

Yvonne A. (nee Sayre) Riedel, age 91 of Madison formerly of Mentor and Painesville Twp., passed away November 6, 2021 at the Lantern of Madison. She was born October 14, 1930 in Ottawa, OH. Yvonne spent the first 10 years of her life living with her grandmother in Ottowa, Putnam County, Ohio. She then moved with her mother to Cleveland. After graduating from East Tech High School in Cleveland, Ohio, Yvonne worked at Cleveland Clinic for a few years. After she met the man of her dreams, Yvonne and Daniel married in 1951. They set up house in Mentor Headlands, Ohio and had four children. Yvonne enjoyed her family immensely. She took the job of “chief cook and bottle washer” to a new level. Yvonne enjoyed baking and made the most amazing cinnamon rolls, monkey bread, bread, apple kuchen, balish, nut tussies, apple pies and as everyone knows, apricot spice bars. She was also a great cook with specialties of one dish meals, lasagna and spaghetti. Yvonne’s all time specialty was her Tupperware coated Apple Kuchen, a taste to remember, a close second to the sugarless pumpkin pie! But most importantly, on Thanksgiving, after going to the Reed’s to clean the turkey, burn those brussel sprouts (or completely forget them!). All kidding aside, she was truly the best baker and cook around. Pie nights will forever live in infamy. Yvonne treasured her time with her grandchildren, from having them spend time with her, baking for them, telling them about their parents, learning about her children through the eyes of her grandchildren and teaching them how to bake, cook, be loved and love others. Her great-grandchildren were an even greater joy!! (Though they were spared the horrendous hair de-tangling sessions!) She enjoyed her friends as well. She made it her mission to keep in touch with people, surround them with baked goods, coffee and love. Her specialty was being there when you needed her, whether you knew it or not! To know her was to love her. Mom’s other interest was traveling. She enjoyed going to Las Vegas and cruising with dad, frequent trips to Columbus to visit her grandchildren and trips with her grandchildren to Baltimore, Louisville and Chicago. Annual trips to Kraynaks and Daffins as well as going to sporting events for her grandchildren were a must. Participating in sporting events was a particular strength, riding horses, for example. She was always up for an adventure, fire, breakdown or whatever as long as a bathroom stop was involved!! She is survived by her children, Dan (Patti) Riedel, Norman (Karen) Riedel, Kim (Ron) Robison and Barb (Paul) Dolan; and grandchildren Hiedi (Matt) Dillon, Heather (Chuck) Comfort, Hollie (Mark) Tanzillo, Melinda (Robert) Nye, John (Tiffany) Robison, Sarah (Greg) Muzila, Lindsay Friedel (Mike Bowman), Adam (Megan) Friedel, Zachary Dolan, Bethany Dolan and Stephen (Cora Paulino) Dolan. Additional family includes Arlene Friedel and Jan Riedel; Great-grandchildren include Sydney and Derrick Dillon, Giovanni and Charlie Comfort, Logan, Maddox, Frankie, Karson and Brooklyn Tanzillo, Belle and Alex Bowman, Brock Friedel, Jerry and Joey Robison, Molly and Payten Riedel and Tabitha and Robbie Nye; Her coffee buddies, Judy and Dorothy, friends for life. She will forever be thankful for her Covid years with her partner in crime, Belle (as will we!). She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel; her son, Michael Friedel; her grandson, Daniel Riedel III; her grandson, Bradley Riedel; her mother, father and siblings. The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Monday, November 15, 2021 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park in North Olmsted, OH.
