Anthony D. Barone

Anthony D. Barone, age 79 of Mentor, peacefully passed away Thursday, April 8, 2021 at his home after a lengthy battle with a muscle disease. He was born August 30, 1941 in Cleveland, OH to the late Gaspare and Frances (Nosse) Barone. Growing up in Cleveland he attended Christ the King School and Church and then Collinwood High School. He married Gwen Elsten in 1963. They began their family in Cleveland and then moved to Mentor in the early ’70s to continue raising their family. He was a member of St. Bede’s the Venerable Church. He began working at age 16 but most of his career was in the coffee business as a salesman and driver for Latouraine and Superior Coffee companies. He also worked for Mentor Public Schools at Ridge Middle School as part of their custodial staff before his retirement. Anthony was a humble, hard-working man with a very kind soul. He never complained and always put his family first. He was a faithful blood bank donor for most of his adult life. He enjoyed watching Nascar and was an avid classic car enthusiast who traveled to many different car shows. He spent many years restoring his 1955 Metropolitan. Another favorite hobby was collecting old coins which are now passed onto his family as a remembrance. All the fond memories of him will be held dearly by the many people in his life. Survivors include his wife, Gwen (nee Elsten) Barone; children, Kevin (Kathy) Barone and Christy (Mark) Malnar; grandchildren, Sierra and Alexa Malnar; and siblings, Angela Barone, Rosalie (Vincent) Marino and Jean Addison (Family friend); In-laws, Paul Elsten (Diane) (deceased); Sherry (Sanford) Bernard. Along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Anthony “Tony” Barone; brothers, Carl Barone and Gaspare Barone. Private family services will be held. Arrangements entrusted to Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060.
