Catherine A. Roos

Catherine A. Roos, 74, of Mentor-on-the-Lake, passed away May 2, 2025 at Mentor Hills Post Acute. She was born March 7, 1951, in Philadelphia, PA to the late Otto and Gertrude Roos. Survivors include her nephew, Stephen (Satsumi) Roos; great nieces and nephews, Raymond, Thomas, Marie and Hannah Roos, dearest and most loyal friend, Donna (Michael) George, Donna’s niece Nicole and devoted daughters Deanna George and Amy Morrison, and Ike, the most wonderful neighbor of all time. One of Cathy’s favorite things to do was taking people out to eat and insisting on paying the bill. There were no people on earth more special than her nieces and nephews, on whom she could not wait to dote. She was especially proud that one of her niece’s middle names was Catherine. Year after year, Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner gatherings with her family were special. She enjoyed Scotch on the rocks, word search puzzles, all things in Nature, voraciously reading historical biographies and celebrity magazines, and having soothing candles lit around the house. In decades past, Cathy lived in the San Francisco area, welcoming her nephew as he traveled back and forth to Japan for many years. Of particular significance is when he visited her in May 1981 when Mt. St. Helens erupted. They took a special trip to Reno anyway. Preceding Catherine in death are her brother George Roos and sister-in-law Anna Roos. Those who are also welcoming her into God’s kingdom include her grandparents, George and Margaret Veigel, Uncle George ‘Jimmy’ & Aunt Florence Veigel, Uncle Frederick ‘Fritz’ and Aunt Georgia Veigel, and Uncle Frances ‘Slim’ and Aunt Margaret Buchanan. With a warm, outstretched arm is cousin ‘Little’ Margaret Rowand. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 9, 2025 at St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church, 9114 Lakeshore Blvd., Mentor, Ohio 44060. A funeral mass to conclude the gathering will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 9, 2025 at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, 11521 Chillicothe Rd., Chesterland, Ohio 44026. Please meet at the cemetery.
