Colleen Michelle Muir

Once upon a time, a most beautiful child was born. Blonde of bouncing curls, large inquiring hazel eyes, smiles and laughter that lit the hearts of all. Inquisitive, smart, kind, happy, loving and healthy. Colleen Michelle Muir was born January 24, 1949 and passed on to her next home on December 21, 2016. At the very young age of 13, Colleen was struck with Multiple Sclerosis; it changed the course of her life swiftly and harshly. Colleen forged on to graduate from Mentor High School and attend Lakeland Community College. Colleen forged on. In 1979 Colleen moved to Warsaw, OH to live and thrive at Echoing Hills Village – a place, a home, a community designed for individuals with disabilities to learn, connect, play and worship. To enable a purposeful life, full of dignity and choice. Echoing Hills was Colleen’s lifeline to what all of us want and need – love, acceptance, comradery, and activity. She loved her trip to Florida, the Maine coast and especially her trips to Barnes and Noble bookstore in Columbus. Colleen always had no less than 3 books at a time that she was reading. She was smart, wise, sarcastic, accepting and funny. She loved Echoing Hills – her home, and the wonderful people who have made it their mission in life to enable the disabled. The love that these special people give is impossible to convey in words. Colleen would ask, “ Am I useful?” To which her sister Kyle would reply that she is the most useful human being she will ever know. She exemplified all that is good. Colleen was perfect. Her heart, soul and essence were perfect, only her body betrayed her. Colleen leaves behind an extended family of six siblings and their families. Her wonderful Aunt Eleanor and family. Her loving family at Echoing Hills. She joins her beloved mother Mary Elizabeth Muir to celebrate their first Christmas in heaven together. Colleen is now at peace and running with swift abandon through the clouds. A celebration of Colleen’s life and spirit will be at a later date. Godspeed Colleen, my perfect sister.
