Daniel Lloyd Cicchella

Daniel Lloyd Cicchella, 94, of Chesterland passed away January 3, 2026 at David Simpson Hospice House, Cleveland. He was born September 14, 1931 in Cleveland to the late Daniel D. and Hazel Cicchella. Daniel loved his family and the Lord with all his heart. He was an avid sports fan and loved fishing, boating, golfing and swimming. He graduated from Mayfield High School, where he played football, basketball, baseball and ran track. In 1948, Dan, the captain of the football team, led the Mayfield Wildcats to the city championship. After high school, he attended Albion College for a year, where he lettered in football before deciding to enlist in the US Air Force. He served his country proudly. If thanked for his service while wearing his Air Force Veteran hat, he always answered, “It was my duty and my pleasure.” After leaving the Air Force, Dan became a certified union bricklayer. He worked with his father and other relatives, building many homes throughout Cleveland. Later he worked on many buildings throughout the city. After retiring, he went to work for Laborers for Christ, building churches throughout the USA. In his spare time, Dan was an active father, coaching Little League baseball and camping on weekends. He was an active member of the Chesterland Jaycees. Dan loved to travel. He traveled with his wives, Shirley and Janice. He traveled throughout the USA, Mexico and Canada enjoying the scenery and the cuisine. He was stationed in England and, while there, traveled throughout Europe and especially enjoyed visiting Italy, from where his paternal grandparents emigrated. Dan was also a proud member of St. Mark Lutheran Church of Chesterland, Ohio, for over 50 years. During this time, he served as an elder, sang in the choir, attended Bible study and led the outdoor recreation for youth fellowship and VBS, where children (including his grandchildren) learned that Christians can have fun together. Dan and his wife, Jan, were snowbirds. They always came back from Thanksgiving until New Years Day because being with family during the holidays was very important. While in Florida, they lived with Christian friends in beautiful campgrounds. Dan was busy golfing, swimming, playing cards, bicycling, cooking for friends and their congregation, volunteering with the therapeutic riding horses, attending Bible study and so much more. Dan was always so happy when his children and grandchildren spent a week in the sun during the winter with them. Family was always so special to Dan. He treasured every moment he had with all of them throughout his life. Survivors include his children, Daniel W. (Angelique) Cicchella, Paula (Timothy) Holt, Cynthia Cicchella, Richard L. (Catherine) Huston Jr., Debra (Wm. David) Larrick and Robin Huston; daughter-in-law, Jacque Cicchella; grandchildren, Michael (Brianne) Huston, Matt Huston, Timothy (Jennifer) Holt, Joseph (Alison) Holt, Julie (Daniel) Wallenhorst, Chad (Maci) Murawski, Sarah (Robert) Doll, William (Arlene) Larrick, Justin Cicchella, Allison (Matt) Pfeifer, Jordan Cicchella, Jaden Cicchella, Julian Cicchella, Jaxon (Annie) Cicchella and Jonah Cicchella; great grandchildren, Aubrey, Johnny, Hayden, Zachary, Wesley, Elizabeth, Josephine, Rosemary, Iris, Aidan, Kyler and Mila; sister, Joanne (Michael) DeDominicis and brother-in-law, Robert McSween. Preceding Daniel in death are his wife, Janice L. Huston Cicchella (nee: Eckerman); first wife, Shirley Cicchella (nee: Davis); son, Jeffrey Cicchella; sister, Marilyn McSween and grandson, Jansen Cicchella. Family and friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. – 12 noon, Saturday, January 31, 2026 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 11900 Chillicothe Rd., Chesterland, Ohio 44026. A memorial service will begin at 12 noon.
