Dorothy E. Lennox

Dorothy E. Lennox, age 89 of Mentor, passed away at the David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland on June 21, 2025. She was born July 29, 1935 in West Seneca, NY to the late Theodore & Sara Zittel. After graduating from West Seneca High School, she attended Allegheny College in Meadville, PA, then went on to Albion College in Albion, MI, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and graduated Summa Cum Laude. During this time, she met the love of her life, Thomas Lennox, whom she was married to for 69 years. Dorothy was an artist and enjoyed all forms of art, music and theater. She was involved in music and theater in college and continued with Community Theater with the Marpian Players in Lake County, as well as with the Mentor PTA Circus. She loved community volunteering, and worked with The Lake County Mental Health Dept. and League of Women Voters of Lake County, organizing the Acacia Fair and Halloween displays at their home to raise funds for various charities, including the Lake Humane Society. Dorothy and Tom performed as clowns for charity events, and donated many hours to several other causes. Dorothy, with her husband Tom, started a medical business, Luminaud inc. in Mentor, OH. She was able to work alongside her family with passion and commitment to helping many in the Laryngectomee and Speech communities, and their families. She is survived by her husband and soul-mate, Thomas M. Lennox of Mentor, OH; cherished sister, Sara F. Zittel of New York, NY; and 5 children, Tomo (Sam) Lennox of Plymouth, MN, Dave (Kathy) Lennox of Willoughby, OH, Jamie (Joanne) Lennox of Flower Mound, TX, Ted (Jackie) Lennox of Hambden, OH and Sara (Scott) Landis of Wickliffe, OH. She is also survived by 2 honorary children, Virginia (Cliff) Tanner of Mentor, OH and Joel Drayton of Dumfries, VA; 18 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 2 nephews. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Theodore & Sara (Young) Zittel; grandson, Cameron Lennox; sister-in-law, Billie Jean Anderson and nephews, Wesley Anderson and Bill Anderson. Dorothy is remembered for her warmth, kindness, and love for her family and friends, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The Lennox family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 PM, Wednesday July 9, 2025 at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060.
