Eleanor J. Perri

Eleanor J. Perri, 85, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at UH Geauga Medical Center in Chardon. Born May 29, 1928, in Cleveland, Eleanor J. Perri was the youngest sibling of nine children. At age 20, she met and married the love of her life, Ugo. Eleanor and Ugo were the proud parents of Maria and Debra. Eleanor was 39 years old when Ugo suddenly became ill and died in 1967. She was a young widow of two daughters, whom she raised alone working many jobs to make ends meet. Once her daughters were happily married, they both made her a grandmother. She doted over her two grandsons and one granddaughter, while continuing to work until age 80. She became a great-grandmother just one week ago. Eleanor spoiled everyone with her fabulous cooking and baking, and became known for her "sauce" and "nuthorns". She sewed beautiful keepsakes for her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandson.Eleanor was kind, compassionate, caring, generous and very funny. Truly she will be greatly missed by everyone. Always with a smile on her face, never asking for help and always willing to lend a hand, she was a shining example of the "Greatest Generation". Survivors are her daughters, Maria (James) Continenza of Surprise, Ariz., and Debra (Stephen G.) Kovalick of Mentor; grandchildren, Stephen M. (Jacklyn) Kovalick, Scott (Caroline) Kovalick and Lisa Continenza; and great-grandson, Patrick Kovalick; along with her sister, Josephine Carlo; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Eleanor was preceded in death by her first husband, Ugo DiCioccio; second husband, John Perri; parents, Peter and Josephine Marino; and siblings, Peter, Mary, Carmella, Charles, Rose, Phyllis and Anthony. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday February 5, 2014 at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
