Howard A. Gardner Sr., age 83 of Painesville Twp, died Friday January 4, 2019 at Richmond Heights Medical Center, Richmond Heights, OH. He was born January 23, 1935 in Cleveland, OH. Mr. Gardner was a retired Maintenance Mechanic for General Motors for over 30 years. He worked at the Fisher Body Coit Road and Wentzville, MO plants. He lived life to the fullest with the love of his life filling his days with family outings, travel, playing cards and lots of golf. He cherished his family and took great pride in being a father of 9, grandfather of 23 and great-grandfather of 28. Reproduction was his specialty, not to mention the loved ones that adopted him as a second father. He also enjoyed working on cars, woodworking and most of all - always making people laugh. He was always quick with the jokes and loved giving out nicknames. You knew you were loved if you had a nickname. Everyone that met him was immediately hooked; people stuck to him like glue. He was the most caring, loving man and will be truly missed. Survivors include his wife of 51 years; Patricia A. “Pat” (Patterson) Gardner, children: Connie (Jerry) Reed, Duane (Cindy) Gardner, Debbie (Gary) Ohly, Dean (Diane) Secrest, Tricia (Gerald) Nanney and Lisa (John) Hemnes. Grandchildren; Jennifer (Aaron) Windley, Chester Reed, Samantha (Reese) Hallak, Cody (Christina) Wiley, Jake Wiley, Nicholas (Angela) Gardner II, Holly (Jason) Gardner, Dana (Tom) Kaufman, Duane (Jennifer) Gardner, Dane (Amber) Gardner, Dylan Gardner, Samantha Gardner, Brandon (Meghan) Chamberlin, Brittani (Tommy) Shipek, Daniel (Erica) Lastoria, Christopher (Kayla) Aman, Justin (Kirstin) Nanney, Janessa Nanney, Joseph Nanney, Thomas Collins, Eric Hemnes, Shae Hemnes, Kylie Hemnes. Great-grandchildren; Carley Windley, Alyssa Hallak, Peyton Hallak, Morgan Hallak, Cylus Wiley, Chase Wiley, Nicholas Gardner III, Brooke Gardner, Lillian Nazario, Owen Kaufman, Wyatt Kaufman, Lorelai Kaufman, Lincoln Kaufman, Duane Thomas Gardner Jr., Elizabeth Gardner, Brooklyn Gardner, Bryson Gardner, Jasmine Gardner, Alaina Chamberlin, Brody Chamberlin, Skyler Shipek, Addyson Shipek, Daylen Lastoria, Trace Lastoria, Audrina Aman, Ashlynn Aman, Ryaan Gillis, Carolyn Collins. Daughters in law: Leanna Gardner and Andrea Gardner, former son in law: Danny Lastoria, former daughter in law: Peggy Conroy and numerous nieces & nephews. Preceding Howard in death are his sons: Howard, Nick and Jeff Gardner, parents: Arthur and Edna Gardner, two sisters: Millie and Rose, two brothers: Edward and Arthur. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Monday January 7, 2019 at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060.
