Irene E. (nee Glick) Nemeckay

Irene E. (nee Glick) Nemeckay, age 96 of Richmond Heights, OH, passed away peacefully in her home on March 24, 2023, surrounded by her loving children. She was born September 10, 1926, in Cleveland, OH, and was a 68 ½ year resident of Richmond Heights. She was the beloved wife to her late husband Steve for 78 years and the loving and devoted mother of Steve who passed away in 2022. She is survived by her sons and daughters, Darlene (Leo) DePretis, Doug (Therese), Dhawn (Dennis) DiMarino, Chris (Darnel), Jim (Barbara), and Debbie. Blessed with 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Family was her top priority and her greatest joy. Mom never asked “why” when it came to her family's needs, she just provided what was needed with unconditional love and devotion, never asking for anything in return. Her special touch could be seen in her home and her yard, as she took great pride in keeping them both so beautiful. Mom had a beautiful voice and loved to sing along to any song her husband would play on his harmonica, accordion, or electric organ. They were quite a duo. Mom's beautiful smile lit up the room, and her laughter was contagious, as she had a fantastic sense of humor; one of her favorite sayings when asked by her children where something was, she would say “Right here, on the end of my nose!” She made every day fun. Mom was a strong and determined fighter as she beat cancer twice in her life. Her first battle was at age 64 with bladder cancer, then at age 91 with lung cancer. And through these battles, she never entertained the thought of giving up. She woke up each day ready to outshine the previous day with even more determination to survive, and she did just that, she never stopped, not for one day. This was our mom and her tenacity, courage, strength, and resilience will be carried in the hearts of every one of her children – Today, Tomorrow and Forever More. On angels wings shall she fly, on her final journey home! With deepest gratitude, love, and honor. We Love You! Forever, Your Children. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 5-8 pm on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. A funeral mass will be held at 10 am on Friday, March 31, 2023, St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 7575 Bellflower Rd., Mentor, OH 44060. Please meet at church. Burial will be at All Souls Cemetary at a later date.
