Janet C. Parke

Janet C. Parke, 87, of Concord Twp., OH., formerly of Ferndale, MI, died Monday, July 13, 2020 at Tri-Point Medical Center, Concord, OH. She was born March 1, 1933 in Detroit, MI. Janet served as president of the Theta Rho Girls’ club, an organization formed to give girls the opportunity for leadership and service. She was a 1951 Graduate of Lincoln High School in Ferndale, Michigan. Ms. Parke was a retired Secretary from the former JL Hudson department store in Detroit after over 30 years of employment. Preceding Janet in death are her parents: Howard and Hannah Parke and older siblings; Thomas and Howard Parke and Betty Parke Talcott. Janet was a full-time Aunt to her surviving seven nieces and one nephew and their children and grandchildren. Her oldest brother Tom’s family: Janet Parke-Leighton and Ilene (Daniel) Parke Philbin: two great-nieces: Emma Leighton and Kat Philbin. Two great nephews: Ethan Philbin and Sean (Audra) Philbin with great-great niece, Mitzie and great-great nephew, Rory. Her elder sister Betty’s two daughters: Anne (David) Fornari and Carol (Edmund) Storms, four great-nieces: Erica Fornari, Jordan (Wesley) Adam with great-great-nephew, Connor and great-great-niece, Elise; Laura Fornari and Jenna (Lawrence) Flanangan. Her older brother Howard’s family: Karen (Steven) Haggarty, Margaret Parke, Therese (Douglas) Carson and Joseph (Nidhi) Parke. Six great nieces and eight nephews, Meghan (Jason) Pierce with great-great nephew Jacob and great-great nieces Elizabeth and Riley, Michael (Amanda) Haggarty with great-great niece Haiven, Martin Parke, Laura (Scott) McKeon with great-great niece Anna and great-great nephew Cameron, Greg Parke, Ben Parke, Danielle Carson, Douglas Carson, Samantha Carson, Sean Parke, Kiana Parke, Callaen Parke, Alexander Parke and Sophia Parke. Aunt Janet was the best aunt. Even though she was the same age as our mothers she always seemed more like a big sister. On vacations she would sit in the middle of the back seat, when they were still comfortable, and play games and teach us silly songs like Mairzy Doats. At amusement parks, she would go on any ride if we asked. She loved to send cards. She never missed a birthday when we were young or an anniversary when we got older. Aunt Janet enjoyed going to the movies, introducing us to those big musicals and blockbusters. She shared her old Hollywood gossip magazines, so don’t challenge any of us to old movie trivia. She enjoyed the challenge of a puzzle, crossword and jigsaw. Receiving updated photos of the family were a constant source of joy and she proudly showed them to everyone. An avid Detroit Tigers fan, she taught us what all those statistics at the bottom of the screen meant. Aunt Janet loved to travel, especially to see family and on cruises. Her favorite non-family trip was to San Juan, Puerto Rico. She was a very special person and we will miss her. A Private family entombment took place at Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley, MI.
