L. Leanne Schwind

L. Leanne Schwind (nee Fox) was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend during her incredible 88 years of life. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at UH Geauga Medical Center, Chardon. She was born November 22, 1937, in Cleveland. Leanne was proud to serve as a U.S. Marine and as a councilwoman on the Willowick City Council. She worked as a salesperson for Rubbermaid and Avon, the latter of which she received a top seller award. She worked for the American Heart Association for 30 years as a fundraiser and the lead coordinator for many large events. She later used her fundraising skills while working for Deaconess Hospital and Breckenridge Village. Leanne loved to socialize throughout her life. She was a cheerleader at Euclid High School and made many close friends whom she continued to meet for lunch over the years. She enjoyed skating at the Euclid Rollerdrome and putting on shows with her fellow skaters who became lifelong friends. It is there she met the love of her life, Jay, her husband of nearly 69 years, and their love resulted in the family and friends which she cherished until the end. Leanne valued the community with which she raised her family. She volunteered to coordinate March of Dimes walks, Muscular Dystrophy Association carnivals, and along with her husband, joined the Willowick Jaycees, where they made many more lasting friendships while contributing to numerous civic projects. She served as den mother for her sons’ Cub Scout troop and later as troop leader for her daughter’s Girl Scout troop. Through her church involvement, she served at the food pantry and was an orator during Mass. Leanne took great pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their accomplishments. She loved to attend the birthday parties of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and had a positive reputation for providing unique and fun gifts. She also made time to remember those who came before her and quickly became the family’s lead genealogist and storyteller. She authored several books with tales of her ancestors which will now live on with her descendants. For example, she and her brother-in-law, Ken Dolsak, were instrumental in getting her grandfather, Charley Fox, “Cleveland’s Wrestling Cop” inducted to the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame. Above all, Leanne was very dedicated to her faith and taught her family by example how to live a rich and fulfilling Catholic life. Survivors include her husband of 68 years: Jay A. Schwind; children: James (Mary) Schwind, David (Jackie) Schwind and Susan (Dr. Craig) Swanson; grandchildren: Dr. Melissa (Dr. Michael) Seifried, Dr. Joshua (Amanda) Schwind, Dr. Amanda (Dr. Mate) Soric, Stephanie (Chad) Saunders, Dr. Kristen (Dr. Michael) Makowski, Charles Swanson and Samantha Swanson; great-grandchildren: Max, Mia, Ava (Soric), Eliana, Isaac, Fritz, Hannah, Ava (Schwind), Mina, Wyatt, Ariana, Bella, Wesley, Brady, Felix, Sterling and Sophia; her brother-in-law: Ken Dolsak; nephew: Rob (Debbie) Dolsak; and nieces: Sherry Dolsak and Laura (Jared) Johnston. Preceding Leanne in death are her parents: Eli and Laura Fox, her sister: Bonnie Dolsak and her great-grandchildren: Kaspar, Mathilde, Matthias and Annamaria Seifried. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Avenue, Mentor, Ohio 44060. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at St. Gabriel Church, 9925 Johnnycake Ridge Rd., Concord, OH 44077. Interment will be in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon, OH.
