Leona Bugeda Sovey

Leona Bugeda Sovey, age 88, of Chardon, died Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Maplewood at Chardon, Chardon, OH. She was born August 23, 1932 in Cleveland, OH. Survivors include her nieces: Ann Bugeda and Mary (Philip) Haas, great-nieces: Madeline (Daniel) Sederholm and Jenna Haas, and step-daughters: Christine Golias and Donna Tropp. She was a joyful friend to many. Preceding Leona in death are her husband of 26 years: Robert Sovey, parents: Leon and Josephine Bugeda and brother: Robert (Genevieve) Bugeda. Lee grew up in the Slavic Village neighborhood and graduated from South High School. She attended Kent State University where she obtained her Masters degree in Education. Lee was an enthusiastic and accomplished career educator with Euclid City Schools. She taught 5th grade at Upson Elementary and 2nd grade at Lincoln. She was committed to opening up young minds to the world through reading. She was widely recognized for her contributions and was a Martha Holden Jennings Award recipient. She retired in 1994. Lee loved socializing with family and friends and was often the life of the party. She loved birthdays and holidays. She was generous with her time and support of her family and local causes. She was a Cleveland sports fan, cheering on the Indians and the Browns no matter what. Lee enjoyed travel; to the ocean, the mountains, or anywhere new. She and her husband, Bob, enjoyed many happy seasons as Snowbirds in Naples, Florida. She loved trees, especially ancient oaks, royal palms and over decorated Christmas trees. She was blessed with a life well lived. We will miss her joyful laugh. Private family funeral mass was held at Divine Word Church, Kirtland, OH.
