Louis Jack Skubic

Louis Jack Skubic, 81, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, on Tuesday, July 9. Born Feb. 11, 1932, in Cleveland, Lou was a graduate of Collinwood High School. He went on to receive a Business Degree from Miami University, where he was a proud member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He also served in the U.S. Army and loved telling stories about being stationed in the Panama Canal. A born salesman, Lou never met a stranger. He finished his passionate career as a regional sales manager with Gilbarco, a global leader in the retail petroleum industry, where he left behind countless fellow employees and customers, many of whom he considered lifelong friends. Lou loved driving and traveling with his wife, attending concerts, shows and cultural events. He was involved with many organizations and clubs throughout his life. He loved the beach and boats and did not like to sit still! As a founding and faithful member of St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church in Mentor, he was a regular at Bible Study and First Friday Mass. He left behind a beautiful legacy of kindness and caring. Lou will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, who was loving, compassionate, considerate, full of integrity and patience and a loyal protector. He will also be remembered by his quick wit, which was his forte, always one to put a smile on someone's face. And "papa" was especially proud of his three grandchildren, who lit up his life. He made friends with everyone he met, even up until the end with the marvelous nurses and doctors at Hillcrest Hospital. The family is especially appreciative of the excellent care Lou received from the nurses on the 3rd floor and the Hospice nurses. Lou is survived by his wife of 56 years, LaVerne (Lucic); son, Scott of Mentor; daughters, Sue (Jim) Shearin of Raleigh, N.C. and Kathie Skubic of Pompano Beach, Fla.; and beloved grandchildren, James, John and Megan Shearin of Raleigh, N.C. He was also brother to Eileen Kidner of Madison; and the dear brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend to many. Mr. Skubic was preceded in death by his infant son, Louis; parents, Louis and Frances Skubic; and infant brother, Charles. Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday July 12, 2013 at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 9114 Lake Shore Blvd., Mentor, OH 44060. The Family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
