Marion Francis Volchko

Marion Francis Volchko (nee: Thomas) was born in Cleveland on June 1, 1927. She passed away at home in Mentor-on-the-Lake on October 15, 2022 at the age of 95. Daughter to Katherine Thomas (deceased), loving wife of the late Andrew (Andy) Volchko (married in 1949); loving mother of Noreen Thompson (Pete-deceased), Gail Volchko Adams (Mike) and Karen Volchko (Bob Bergolc-deceased); step-grandmother and step-great grandma to the Thompson family; sister-in-law of Margaret Mogyordy, Maralee Volchko, and Anne Guzi; she is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Marion was an only child to a single mother (another amazing woman) and at times was in the care of foster families and friends. She went to and resided at the Andrews School for Girls in Willoughby. Being an only child is one of the reasons why it is believed that she was attracted to Andy and the large family of 14 that he was from. She loved the outdoors and was an athletic woman. Any trip was going to include some bicycling. She also enjoyed golfing and racquet sports. The activities that she continued into the later years of her life impressed her family and friends. She was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and would watch the games while on the phone with her close friend, Pauline (sister-in-law, deceased). And we must not forget the felines and canines -- companions throughout her life. Her employment was a mix of many things – office, factory, school aide, Willoughby-Eastlake Library, to name a few. Marion’s and Andy’s first and only home was in Eastlake until Andy passed away. Not long after that she and daughter, Karen, moved to Mentor-on-the-Lake. Marion was a member of Saint John Vianney Church in Mentor since 2011. 95 years -- a life well lived -- she was an amazing woman to those who knew her, especially her family. We are thankful for her and what she passed on to many. She is loved – will always be loved -- and will be missed very much. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, Ohio 44060. A funeral service to conclude the visitation will begin at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A private family burial to take place in Knollwood Cemetery.
