Mary T. Zappitelli

Mary T. Zappitelli, 57, of Mentor passed away peacefully Thursday, November 5, 2015 at home surrounded by her family after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Mary was born April 26, 1958 in Painesville, Ohio. She earned her B.A. in Education from Lake Erie College and later earned her Master’s degree. Mary was a teacher for 25 years. Anyone that knew Mary could see her love for teaching and inspiring others. She enjoyed teaching Art at St. Mary of the Assumption School in Mentor and later Spanish at Lake Catholic High School in Mentor. Mary also worked closely with the students at Lake Catholic as the Spirit Rally Advisor, Senior Class Moderator, and Student Government Advisor. As great as Mary’s passion was for teaching, her main passion was for her family. Mary was a devoted wife of 35 years and an amazing mother and grandmother. She loved to cook and play with her grandchildren. One of her greatest joys was to spend every Sunday at home with her family. Mary was also an active parishioner at St Mary of the Assumption Church. Mary’s kind smile and gentle voice will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. Mary is survived by her loving husband, Frank Zappitelli; three children, Danielle (husband Melvin) Huggins, Steven (wife Janine) Zappitelli, and Michael (wife Hannah) Zappitelli; grandchildren Gavin Huggins and Giada Zappitelli; mother and father Michael and Helen (Bertone) Zappitelli; sister Patricia Zappitelli and nephew Mitchell Zappitelli. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 pm Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave, Mentor, OH 44060. The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at St Mary of the Assumption Church, 8560 Mentor Ave, Mentor, OH 44060. Burial will follow at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon, Ohio. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts be sent to the Mary Zappitelli Lake Catholic Scholarship Fund.
