Michael James Latta

Michael James Latta, 60, of Mentor-on-the-Lake, passed away August 28, 2025. He was born August 28, 1965, in Columbus, to the late Billy and Susan Latta. A proud and lifelong Nut, Mike bled scarlet and gray as a passionate Ohio State Buckeye fan. As a season ticket holder for many years, he made lasting memories at games with his brothers, father, daughters, and best of all bringing his son, Alex, to his first ever game. His love for sports extended to the golf course, where he enjoyed all aspects of the game including the hard work put into maintaining the greens. A musician at heart, Mike’s talent and joy was evident when he shared his passion for song. Mike played the guitar and would sing any song you requested. He loved even more if you joined and sang along. Previously he played in a band and alongside the contemporary choir at his parish. As a true outdoorsman, he was a patient and dedicated teacher with his children when it came to their shared hobbies such as camping, fishing, and firearms. He has passed on his love for pheasant hunting and sporting clays to all 3 children, instilling in them a deep respect for firearm education. He was a true marksman. This same appreciation for artistry and skill led him to become an unexpected yet avid fan of gymnastics, a sport he grew to love while watching his daughters, Brianna and Amanda, compete. Michael was fondly proud of his time spent at Holy Spirit Seminary. Family and faith were of utmost importance. As a certified butcher and chef, Michael was no stranger to sharing a home cooked meal. From gourmet dinners to campfire pies, he left you with a full stomach and heart. Unless you were his partner, brace yourself for a shutout in euchre. Survivors include his child with Maria Perez-Ceely, Alex (Rhyna Simmers) Latta, and children with Gina Foresta Gliebe, Brianna Latta and Amanda Latta; siblings, Phillip Latta, Peter (Ann) Latta and Kimberly Latta; sister-in-law, Sarah Latta; and many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and other loving family members and friends. Preceding Michael in death are his brother, David Latta and favorite family dog, Lola. A celebration of Michael’s life will be held 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home and Cremation Center., 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, Ohio 44060.
