Patricia "Pat" Ward

Patricia “Pat” Ward, 81 of Mentor, passed away with her son by her side on Monday, April 2, 2018, at Lake West Medical Center, Willoughby. She was born September 18, 1936, in North Wildwood, NJ to the late Frederick Spalding and Anna Mae De Less. Patricia lived a large portion of her life in Okeechobee and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, where she raised three boys with her late husband. She had a love for the palm trees, sunshine and the ocean- the backdrop of many of her favorite memories. She was employed by the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office as a dispatcher until her retirement in 1996. Although it was hard leaving her Floridian family and friends behind, she moved to Ohio in 2005 to spend time with her eldest son and his family. Patricia loved animals, especially her cat, Dallas, bright flowers and the company of family and friends. She relished being a grandmother and becoming a great-grandmother brought her much joy. She enjoyed sports and became a devoted Cleveland Cavaliers fan- rarely missing a TV broadcast. Patricia weathered many storms in life, but she never quit fighting. Her perseverance and strength will always be admired by those who knew and loved her. The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to the staff of AlterCare Mentor, whose genuine compassion was a beacon of light in a dark place. You will always hold a special place in our family’s heart. Pat is survived by her son, Alan R. (Michele) Ward; grandchildren, Alan A. (Tacy Dooley) Ward, Chelsea (Michael) Palubiak and Derick Ward; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Alan Joseph “ A.J.” and Mia; siblings, Faye (Jerry) Saunders and Andy (Barbara) Spalding; daughter-in-law, Monica Ward and dear friend, Ronnie May. Preceding her in death are her husband, Alan J. Ward and sons, Timothy J. Ward and Frederick J. Ward. A Funeral Service will be held 12noon, Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. A celebration of life luncheon will take place immediately following the service at the Reception Center on the Brunner Campus.
