Shirley L. Drobnick

Shirley Louise Drobnick, 94, of Mentor, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024. Born on December 22, 1929, in Euclid, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Frank and Rose Miller; sister, Anida Petrenchik; and her brothers, Richard and Cliﬀord Miller. Survivors include her children, Cliﬀ (Nancy) Drobnick, Sue (Jerry) Kurowski, Jim (Jennifer) Drobnick, and Jerry (Shelley) Drobnick; 8 beloved grandchildren; and 14 adored great-grandchildren. Shirley departed this world at Vitalia of Mentor surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion. She graduated from Euclid Central High School in 1948, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and privileged to give the Salutatorian speech, focusing on World Peace. Shirley dated Bob Drobnick through high school and as a couple they were chosen by classmates as King and Queen at multiple school events. This ultimately led to a beautiful partnership and marriage of 56 years. Shirley spent a lifetime spreading joy, humor and warmth. Her journey was marked by a profound commitment to family, church and community, and her impact will resonate in the hearts of all who were touched by her kindness and grace. Shirley was the epitome of a dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her nurturing spirit, affection, wisdom, and unwavering encouragement created a foundation of faith and resourcefulness in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley worked in food service in the Euclid City Schools system for 20 years, nourishing the community she so cherished. Her hobbies included photography, sewing, cooking, gardening, traveling (and collecting souvenir rocks), and crocheting. During her lifetime, Shirley made over 40 afghans, at least one for every family member, which will provide enveloping love and comfort for years to come. In addition, Shirley enjoyed following the activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren by attending numerous sporting events, dance recitals, art exhibitions, weddings and graduations. Shirley has been blessed with many dear family members and friends in her lifetime. The family would like to specifically thank Dr. Shreeniwas Lele for his compassionate care of Shirley for over thirty years, the support of Mentor United Methodist Church, and the caring staff at Vitalia’s Assisted Living and Cypress Hospice for Mom’s peaceful passing. The family will receive friends to celebrate Shirley’s life from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060.
