Susanne (Hackney) Black

Susanne (Hackney) Black, a longtime Mentor resident, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, went “home” on Saturday February 20, 2016 from Precious Care Assisted Living in Concord Twp, OH. Susanne began her teaching career in Point Marion, PA as a business teacher. She later moved to Mentor, Ohio and continued teaching business at the high school for more than 30 years. One of her proudest accomplishments was starting the COE Program at Mentor High School for business students who wanted work in the community. After retiring from teaching she and her husband William E. Black, moved to Sun City Center, FL. She was an active member of the security Patrol, Interfaith Social Action Council, Samaritan Services, and a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian church. Susanne was an avid golfer and she and her husband played in several golf leagues as well as participating in a variety of ballroom dance classes. After returning to Mentor she was a member of Mentor United Methodist Church and Mentor Women’s Club. The following was one of her favorite poems and wanted it shared in her memory: Miss me but let me go: “When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me I want no rites in a gloom filled room. Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little – but not too long, and not with your head held low Remember the love that we once shared. Miss me – but let me go For this is a journey that we all must take, and each must go alone It’s all a part of the Master’s plan, a step on the road to home.” Susanne was the cherished mother of daughter Cindi (Ed) Tousel; grandchildren: Jacob Tousel, (Abbey) and Carli Tousel (Fiancé Jay Sherman), great grandchildren: Chase Tousel and Wyatt Sherman; step-daughter Gail (Michael) Daniels; step-grandchildren: Aaron and Adrienne Daniels; step-great-grandchildren: Reis and Crosby. Preceding Susanne in death was her husband William E. Black; parents Jacob and Marguerite Hackney; sister Mary Elizabeth Hackney. A private family Inurnment will be at a later date in Point Marion Cemetery, Point Marion, PA.
