Virginia Lee "Ginny" (née Vassaux) Marikis

Virginia Lee “Ginny” (née Vassaux) Marikis, 96, of Chardon, Ohio, passed into the arms of Angels on November 5, 2025, at Chardon Woods of Journey, Chardon, Ohio. Virginia was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 7, 1929, to Virginia Lee (née Hatcher) Kirsch and Thomas Vassaux. She was raised in Cleveland and attended Shaw High School. Virginia was preceded in death by her devoted husband Michael. They were married on May 5, 1951 and celebrated their Platinum Jubilee together in 2021. They met each other at age 12 while attending Kirk Junior High School. Virginia leaves two daughters, Sharon (Jeffrey) Brock and Kathleen (James) Telzrow. Virginia will be dearly missed and forever loved by her four adoring grandchildren, Brian Brock, Justin (Christina) Brock, Kristin (Daniel) Painter and Dr. Calla (Jacob) Telzrow Brooks and her eight loving great grandchildren, Dylan, Charlie and Landon Brock, Alexa, Marissa, and Jenna Brock, and Danny and Hazel Painter. The memory of Virginia will never leave the hearts of her nieces and nephews, Dr. David Shimko, Connie Ballard, Carla and Michael Colo, Laurel and Doug Goeke. Virginia's loving sister Karen Vassaux Walburn and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Angelo and Penny Marikis will keep her memory tucked safely in their hearts. Her sisters, Judith Shimko and Carol Vassaux preceded her in death. Virginia's married life with Michael and their family was everything to her. Seventy years were filled as a devoted homemaker. She poured her love into every aspect of caring for her family and home. A gifted cook and baker, she delighted others with her homemade meals and sweet treats. Her hands were rarely still. She sewed, mended, quilted and crafted with remarkable skill, creating countless pieces of beauty and comfort. Through her knitting, cross stitch and especially the handmade teddy bears for Ronald McDonald House, Mentor Fire Dept., Deepwood and Rainbow Babies, she shared her warmth and kindness for babies in need. She also crafted hundreds of handmade bags for residents of senior care and special needs facilities. Her quiet generosity and creativity touched more lives than she ever knew. Virginia never missed an opportunity to cheer on her family. She faithfully attended hundreds of their athletic events and musical performances, always an enthusiastic supporter. Her lifelong love of reading was supported through the graciousness of the Chardon Public Library and their home delivery service. It was such a wonderful gift for her to have a regular variety of books. The friendship and kindness shown to Virginia by her friends and staff at the Residence of Chardon will never be forgotten by her family.
