Woodrow W. "Woody" Mabe Jr.

Woodrow W. “Woody” Mabe, Jr., age 85, of Madison Village, died October 18, 2025, at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. He was born September 1, 1940, in Richmond, Virginia. Woody honorably served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from July 1963 to October 1966, stationed in Germany and France. His dedication to service was a reflection of the integrity and strength that defined his life. After his military service, Woody worked as a Cost Accountant at Coe Manufacturing Company for 30 years. He later continued his career at Sam’s Club for six years, followed by four years at Walmart in Madison, where he was known for his friendly spirit and quick wit. It was at Sam’s Club where Woody met the love of his life Debbie. In a moment that perfectly captured his playful spirit and deep affection, Woody got on the store’s PA system and asked Debbie to come up front. When she arrived, he dropped to one knee and proposed to her- right there in front of everyone. The two shared 20 wonderful years together, united by their love for horses, laughter and each other. Woody had a lifelong passion for horses. He loved western riding, and his favorite horse was a Tennessee Walker. Over the years, he trained many horses, finding joy not just in riding but in simply being near them-especially when sharing that time with his beloved wife, who also shared his love for horses and riding. Together, they enjoyed line dancing and spending time at the YMCA. Woody was a natural jokester, always ready with a smile or a laugh, and he brought joy to everyone he met. He will be remembered for his devotion to family, his love of animals, and the laughter he shared so generously. His spirit will live on in every memory we hold. Survivors include his loving wife, Debbie Kocan; children, Gregory (Denean) Mabe, Diago Calinawan, and Christopher Mabe; grandchildren, Samantha and Stephanie, and his sisters, Mildred Kelly and Charlotte Lanier, and his brother, Julian “ Jay” Mabe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow Sr., and Effie Mabe; sister, Evelyn Fischer; and his brothers, Bruce and Thomas Mabe. A celebration of Woody’s life will be held at the Madison Senior Center, 2938 Hubbard Road, Madison, OH 44057 on Sunday, November 9, 2025, from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Food and refreshments will be provided.
