October 16, 1965 - December 26, 2020
Annette “Nettie” Geraldine Vidmar, 55, of Mentor, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 26, 2020. She was born October 16, 1965, in Parma, Ohio to the late Albert J. (in 1988) and Lillian A. (nee: Strnad, in 2020) Vidmar. Nettie was the loving and cherished sister to Joseph (Cynthia) Vidmar, Maureen (Steven) O’Hearn, Albert (Kathryn) Vidmar, Cheryl (John) Wiemero and Mark (Deborah) Vidmar. She was the beloved aunt and great aunt to many nieces and nephews. Nettie was born with Down syndrome, but this life’s challenge drew her family and friends ever closer to her. She was the precious center of her family throughout her life. Her abundant joy and infectious kisses, hugs and laughter were given freely to everyone she encountered. Besides the love for her family, Nettie loved Coke, McDonald’s, singing, listening to music, polka dancing, cheerleading, being called “Pookie”, and her personal library of magazines that she toted around everywhere. With the gratitude and loving vision from family, Nettie became a fixture in Special Olympics circles in her early life. She was an accomplished swimmer and bowler. Nettie’s family volunteered countless hours for Special Olympics and Special Persons Encounter Christ (SPEC) at St. Mary’s in Mentor to support her. Nettie enjoyed a long and deep relationship with the Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities, specifically Deepwood, Broadmoor School and the Willoughby Workshop. Her last years were spent living under the loving care and protection of Consumer Support Services’ (CSS) group home, in Mentor-on-the-Lake. Special thanks are extended to all of Nettie’s CSS caregivers and to the Hospice of the Western Reserve. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 9925 Johnnycake Ridge Road, Concord Township, OH 44060. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:30 a.m. at the church. Burial in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon to follow. Masks are required and social distancing must be observed during all publically attended events. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions be made to the Special Olympics Ohio, 3303 Winchester Pike, Columbus, Ohio 43232 (donate online at www.sooh.org) or to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements entrusted to the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. Please offer condolences at www.brunners.com.
