Genie (Brown) Dillard

September 21, 1945 - July 16, 2021

Genie (Brown) Dillard, age 75, of Painesville, passed away Friday, July 16, 2021 at home surrounded by her family. She was born September 21, 1945 in Painesville, Ohio to the late James Clark and Pauline Hudson. She was the first of 5 children. She graduated from T.W. Harvey High School. On June 15, 1963, Genie married her high school sweetheart, James Edward Dillard. To this union, James and Genie were blessed with two children, Tracey and Terrell Dillard. Mother Dillard accepted Christ at an early age at St. John’s Baptist Church and was a charter member of the New Hope Baptist Church also in Painesville, which started in the Dillard home in 1972. Over the years, she was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the choir, a Deaconess and served on the Mother’s Ministry. Genie owned and operated her own beauty salon, “Genie’s Beauty Boutique” for over 40 years. She was also an instructor and administrator for Lake Erie Beauty Academy and taught cosmetology to many Lake County students. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, James Edward Dillard; her kids, Tracey and Terrell (Nancy) Dillard and her grandsons, Mateo & Isaiah Dillard; brothers, Tim (Carmen) and Joseph (Deborah) Hudson. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren and extended family she loved dearly. Preceding Genie in death are her father, James Edward Clark; mother, Pauline Hudson, and siblings, Cleomie Bogan, Phillip and Paul Hudson. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2021 at New Hope Baptist Church - 428 W. Jackson St. Painesville, OH 44077 and 11:30 – 12:00 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Painesville Assembly of God, 10949 Johnnycake Ridge Rd., Painesville, OH 44077. Funeral Services will begin at 12 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021 also at Assembly of God. Private family interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Painesville, OH 44077. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Dillard Family Foundation at The Cleveland Foundation to establish a memorial “Mothers” garden in Genie’s name.
