Jean D. (Sarangelo) Saponaro

Jean D. (Sarangelo) Saponaro, 86 of Mentor, died peacefully on Thursday, April 12, 2018, surrounded by all of her children and family. She is now reunited with her beloved husband James N. Saponaro, who, in 2003, preceded her in death. Jean was born on November 10, 1931, in Cleveland, the daughter of Joseph and Judith (Marzano) Sarangelo. The youngest of 8 children, she attended John Adams High School in Cleveland and worked at Lincoln Electric before meeting and marrying Jim on August 3, 1957. After raising her four children she worked at General Electric at Nela Park for many years. Jean was devoted to praying the Rosary and active in her faith, at Saint John Vianney Parish in Mentor and Saint Gabriel Parish in Concord. She was involved in many volunteer organizations, especially The Christ Child Society. She was socially active with her Bridge Club friends and then more recently with her Merry Widows club. Jean resided at Parker Place in Mentor for the past 6 years; there she scheduled Mass, and lead the praying of the Rosary every Saturday morning. She was a loving mother to James M. (Karen) Saponaro, Karen A. (Bill) Hadden, Guy R. (Kelly) Saponaro, Joseph M. (Monica) Saponaro; a devoted Grandma and Grammy to Jordyn and Austin Hadden, Jenna, Jessica, Justin (Lisa), Guy B. (Leslie), Tyler (Abby), Joey, Christian, and Matt Saponaro; adoring GG Sap to Isabel and Beatrix; affectionate sister-in-law and dearest friend to Mary Ann Goodchild; dear sister to Mary DiCenzi; loving aunt to many nephews and nieces; and caring friend to many. Jean's family is eternally grateful to Anna Marie Oznowich of Home Instead who treated our mother as her own and took wonderful care of her over these past few years. Preceding Jean in death are her husband, Jim; her parents, Joseph and Judith; her family: Antoinette and Russ Wathey, Faustina and Joe Brankatelli, Ralph and Amelia Sarangelo, Victoria and Rocky Martelucci, Roxy Sarangelo, and Geraldine and Tom Brancazio, Charles and Loretta Saponaro, and John Goodchild. Jean's family will receive family and friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2018, at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Avenue in Mentor. The mass celebrating Jean's life will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 9925 Johnnycake Ridge Road in Concord Township. Please meet at St. Gabriel's Church, the family will be receiving friends and family starting at 9:30 am in the Church foyer.
