Mary Ann Gallagher

May 18, 1933 - December 26, 2021

Born May 18, 1933, Mary Ann Gallagher (nee Brown) passed away peacefully at home December 26, 2021, after enduring Fibromyalgia for over 20 years. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, John, and was preceded in death by her brothers David Brown, George Brown, and Tom Brown. She is survived by her brother Tim Brown in Atlanta, Georgia, daughter Jennifer Lansdale in Towson, Maryland; and sons Daniel (Jacque) in Middlefield; John (Mary) in Hillsborough, North Carolina; Russell (Janis) in Mentor and James (Colleen) in Mentor; along with 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Mary Ann attended Willoughby Union High School followed by St. John School of Nursing in Cleveland where she became a registered nurse. Later she earned a BS degree in Community Health from Kent State University. After working part-time while raising her family, she embraced the role of Mentor High School Nurse becoming much beloved by students and staff for 24 years until her retirement in 1996. As a local garden club member, Mary Ann was particularly proud of her contribution to the Mentor Beautification Program decades ago, working with the Paul Bosley Nurseries to provide flowering trees throughout the city. She also felt honored to assist in the Miranda/Frantz study of infant visual responses at Case Western Reserve. Mary Ann was a member of St. Bede's Church for over 50 years and a long-term member of the Christ Child Society. She was also a member of Birthright Lake County and served on its Board of Trustees. She enjoyed gardening and had a special love for Holden Arboretum where she visited often. The Cleveland Art Museum was one of her favorite interests, often participating in special programs and events. Mary Ann also enjoyed playing bridge and tennis and sailing with her family out of Mentor Harbor Yachting Club where she and John were members for over 50 years. The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Western Reserve for their extraordinary care and comfort during the past several months. Due to the current Covid outbreak, a celebration of Mary Ann’s life will be delayed until spring. Arrangements entrusted to the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. Please offer condolences at www.brunners.com.
