Phyllis J. Crum

Phyllis J. Crum, age 80, of Concord, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 7, 1943, in Ridgway, Pennsylvania. After completing her nursing degree at Sewickley Valley Hospital School of Nursing in Pennsylvania, Phyllis spent more than 10 years working as an RN, including at the University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York, where she met her husband, Ed. She took a pause from her nursing career to become a dedicated and wonderful mother. From gathering the family for dinner each night to applying her artistic and crafting talents to designing the best Halloween costumes, hosting neighborhood kids and friends for gatherings, eating s’mores by the campfire at the lake cottage, beaming and boasting about the accomplishments of her own kids and grandkids, and everything in between, she was simply the best. With a zest for life, Phyllis loved to dance, listen to music, SHOP, chat with friends and family, cheer on the Cleveland Indians (or Guardians), care for animals, play games and assemble puzzles, and travel…just to name a few things. Later in life, she joined the team at the Morley Library, where she was able to combine her love for interacting with and helping people with her love for reading and books. She was creative, smart, funny, vibrant, and kind. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be dearly, dearly missed. Survivors include her husband of 51 years: Edward D. Crum MD; children: Andrew Crum and Emily (fiancé: Sean Morton) Crum and grandchildren: Bradyn, Isabela, Julia, and Rayna Crum. Preceding Phyllis in death are her parents, John and Helen Metro. The family will receive friends from 5:00 -7:00 pm Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave. Mentor, OH 44060. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm Thursday, October 26, 2023, at the funeral home. A private family inurnment in Concord Twp., Cemetery, will be held at a later date.
