Rita A. Hamley Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Rita A. Hamley, 81, of Concord Twp., passed away December 21, 2021, at her home. She was born in Toronto, Ohio, to the late Joseph and Anna (nee Berescak) August, on May 30, 1940. She married William R. Hamley on January 27, 1968, and they were married for 40 years until his passing in 2008. Rita was a teacher for 25 years, sharing her love of reading and writing with middle school students. Most of her career was in the Riverside Local School District. Rita was an avid reader, book club enthusiast, and volunteer with the Friends of Morley Library. She loved to garden and travel, and she had a knack for making people feel at home. She was a first-rate listener and friend. Rita is remembered most for the love and undivided attention she gave to her daughters, grandchildren, and the loving network of friends and family who will remember her for her kindness, sense of humor, and engaging conversations. Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, and her sister, Joanne August. Cherishing Rita’s memory are her daughters, Kara (Jeffrey) O'Donnell and Kristin (Dustin Grove) Hamley; grandchildren, Amelia O'Donnell, Julia O'Donnell, Jasper Grove, and Jinan Grove; and her partner, Ken Kriegmont. The family will receive friends to celebrate Rita’s life from 4-8 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2021 at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at St. Gabriel Church, 9925 Johnnycake Ridge Rd., Concord Twp., OH 44060. The family kindly requests that masks be worn by all, regardless of vaccination status.
