William S. "Bill" and Florence M. "Flo" Fleischer

William S. “Bill” Fleischer age 88 and Florence M. “Flo” Fleischer age 85 of Kirtland for the past 12 years formerly of Chesterland. Mr. Fleischer died Friday, July 25, 2014 at Golden Living Center, Kirtland and Mrs. Fleischer died Saturday July 26, 2014 at Lake West Medical Center, Willoughby. He was born January 19, 1926 and she was born June 22, 1929 both in Youngstown. Mr. Fleischer spent 30 years as a teacher and principal in the Beachwood School System. One highlight of Bill’s career, he was selected to join a group of educators from K.S.U. on a study tour of Scandinavian, European and Russian Schools. He managed the Mayfair swim club in Richmond Heights for 10 years. Mrs. Fleischer was a retired secretary from the former Picker International in Highland Heights and the former National City Bank in Lyndhurst. William earned a B.A. in education from Capital University in Columbus and an M.A. at Kent State University in Kent, OH. Florence attended a bible college in Chicago, Ill. before starting their family. They attended Mentor United Methodist Church, Mentor. They belonged to the Wally Byam Club (Airstream Club). They both enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, playing chess and discussing world affairs. She enjoyed sewing. He was a US Marine Veteran. Survivors include their children Gayle (Jim) Fleischer-Hurley of Las Vegas, John Fleischer of Cleveland, Susan (Chris) Cunningham of Kirtland, Karen (Kim) Hooper of Columbus; 6 grandchildren Matthew, Philip, Kiah, Rose, Harold and Angela and 2 great-grandchildren. Florence is survived by her sister Laura North of Sterling, IL. William is preceded in death by his parents: John and Mary Fleischer, 5 brothers and sisters. Florence is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years William S. “Bill” Fleischer, parents Cecil and Florence North and 2 brothers. Their funeral Service will be held 10 AM Wednesday, July 30, 2014 in the chapel at Mentor United Methodist Church, 8600 Mentor Ave. Mentor, OH. 44060. The family will receive friends Tuesday 5-7 PM at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. Interment will be in South Kirtland Cemetery, Kirtland.
