Barbara Ruth Cornachione

Barbara Ruth Cornachione (nee Staufenberg) age 81 of Mentor, passed away on January 18, 2023 at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mentor, surrounded by her family. She was born October 26, 1941 in Jersey City, NJ. Barbara’s pride and joy was her family. She was a multigenerational mother, raising children from her teenage years through today. Barbara had a profound impact on many lives. She was the oldest of 7 and contributed to the upbringing of her younger siblings. She grew up spending time with her cousins, who were like her sisters. She maintained close relationships with all her cousins and their children throughout her life. When she was young she was very adventurous and enjoyed trying new things including skydiving, sailing and water skiing. She always encouraged a sense of adventure and supported trying things outside your comfort zone. Through the years, as her family grew, she loved being surrounded by her siblings, nieces, nephews, children, and grandchildren. Family outings consisted of days at the beach, camping trips and cross-country road trips to see family. Barbara fostered in her children a love for animals. Barbara supported and encouraged her children and grandchildren to care for dogs, birds, snakes, lizards, guinea pigs, bunnies, and fish. Apart from her love of family and pets, Barbara often indulged in multiple cups of coffee and vanilla ice cream per day. We will be serving vanilla ice cream and coffee in her memory. She is survived by her children Robyn (Maarten) Buma, Christopher (Elizabeth) Cornachione and Kelly (Carl) Garritano; stepsons, Michael (Harriet) Cornachione, Thomas Cornachione and David Cornachione; daughter-in-law, Barbara Cornachione; her 13 grandchildren, Katie, Erica, Colleen, Matthew, Adam, Egan, Conner, Annelies, Sanne, Benjamin, Quinn, Natalie and Modesto; 6 siblings, Robert Staufenberg, Edward Kennelly, Kevin Kennelly, Ellen Reid, Victoria Mariano and Brian Kennelly; 5 great-grandchildren and numerous extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Silvio Cornachione, her mother, Ruth Porzio, her stepson, Craig Cornachione; grandson, David Cornachione and her beloved dog, Tad. The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm on Monday January 23, 2023 at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. The family will have a Christian burial at a later date in St. Mary’s, GA.
