Barbara Jane (Terrell) Mangum

Barbara Jane (Terrell) Mangum died in her sleep in the early morning hours of Sunday February 12, 2017 at the Nason Center of Breckenridge Village, Willoughby, Ohio where she had lived for the past two years. For nearly 60 years she was the loving wife of the late Leo Allan “Al” Mangum, Jr. Both Barb and Al grew up in Lima, Ohio and lived there until his death in 2013. She was born September 2, 1932, the daughter of Renault Neal Terrell and Alice Cantwell Terrell. She graduated from Miami University, Miami, Ohio and taught elementary school in Shawnee and Lima, Ohio public schools; but her primary profession throughout her life was being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker for her husband and three children. She was a long-time member of Trinity Methodist Church in Lima and over the years she was a member and board member of Westside Swim and Racquet Club, member and board member of the YWCA, member of the Lotus Club, member of Delta Gamma National Sorority, member and volunteer of the Junior Service League, member and board member of the Lima Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and member of the Lima and Shawnee Public Schools PTA’s. She and her family spent many wonderful summers at Mullet Lake, Indian River, MI where she was a member of the Grandview Beach Association. Barbara loved to walk and garden. She enjoyed tennis and bridge and spending time with neighbors, friends, and family. Yes, and she biked and roller-bladed and kayaked, too. She loved life and brought light and happiness to those around her. She will be sorely missed. She is survived by her three children: Cynthia Mangum Simerly (David) of Concord Township, OH, Winifred Beth Mangum Kirkpatrick (Terry) of Webster, NY, and Thomas Allan Mangum (Jessica Berentz) of Granville, OH; her five grandchildren: Benjamin Allan Simerly, Matthew Allan Kirkpatrick (Melissa), Alex William Kirkpatrick (Amanda), Jacob Allan Mangum, Kyle Raymond Mangum; one great grandchild: Penelope Lynn Kirkpatrick (daughter of Matthew and Melissa Kirkpatrick). There will be a private graveside burial in Lima, OH. There will be a memorial service in Willoughby, OH at a future date.
