Carl J. Viviani

Carl J. Viviani, age 94 of Willoughby, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Cleveland Clinic- Hillcrest Hospital, Mayfield Heights, OH. He was born February 18, 1930 in Cleveland. Carl originally lived in the Wade Park area of Cleveland, where the family operated a grocery store. He graduated from Cleveland East High in 1948. The family later moved to Willowick, Ohio. Carl enrolled at Kent State University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1953. He served two years in the United States Army, from 1953 to 1955. During the later 1950s, Carl worked a side job as a bartender in Geneva-on-the-Lake during the summertime. There, he met love of his life, Ruby Pektovich, from Warren, Ohio. Carl and Ruby were married in 1958. The family first lived in Euclid, Ohio, and then purchased a home in Willowick. Three children followed – Greg, Randy and John. The family moved to Willoughby in 1972, purchasing a home on Ridge Road that still serves as the family residence. Carl began his career in sales for various companies. In 1964, he started his own independent sales rep business – MH Containers & Equipment Company, which is still operated today by his sons Randy and John. Carl later became involved in real estate, purchasing and operating various commercial properties in Lake County. For many years, he also owned vacation and other properties in Bonita Springs and Naples, Florida. Carl greatly enjoyed sports and card games, but his greatest hobby was boating. He was a longtime member of the Mentor Harbor Yacht Club. He was at home as the captain of the ship, and he and Ruby traveled throughout the Great Lakes. Survivors include his wife of 66 years: Ruby Viviani; children: Greg (Denise) Viviani, Randy Viviani, John (Kim) Viviani; grandchildren: Bryan and Jeffrey Viviani, Mark (Jenna) Viviani, Nick (Sarah) Viviani, Samantha Viviani and Sarah (Jay) Schiffbauer; great-grandchildren: Jack, Camden and Will and brother: Jim (Monica) Viviani. Preceding Carl in death are his parents: John and Philomena Viviani. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024 at Immaculate Conception Church, 37932 Euclid Ave., Willoughby, OH 44094. Please meet at the church.
