Christopher R. "Chris" Sustar

Christopher R. “Chris” Sustar, 55, of Concord Twp., passed away Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, Cleveland, OH. He was born on March 20, 1970, in Cleveland. Chris was part-owner and Vice President of Purchasing at Fredon Corporation, the family manufacturing business, in Mentor, OH. Chris enjoyed spending time with family and friends, riding on his Harley, hunting (aka tree napping), fishing, boating, which entailed whipping people around on tubes trying to make them fall off, and sitting on the porch watching the lake in Chautauqua, NY. He loved to host game nights, football watch parties in the fall, as well as every Thanksgiving and Easter dinner. Chris attended Julie Billiart School where he was given academic support, encouragement, and made lifelong friends (his JB crew). Summers were spent at Chautauqua Lake in Maple Springs where he would ride bikes, water ski, fish, and play many, many games of Ghost in the Graveyard with the neighborhood kids he still calls friends. He went on to attend St. Peter Chanel High School, where he played football and baseball. He had an incredible pitching arm but wasn’t known for his running speed. So, in true Chris fashion, every time he was up to bat, he knew he had to hit a triple to make it safely to first base. After high school, he began working at the family business. His career may have started with sweeping the shop floors, but he went on to become a Journeyman Machinist, then Vice President of Purchasing. He worked with many talented people who became friends over the years and had the privilege to work alongside his father, Roger, sister, Alyson, son, Chris Jr., and daughter Emily. Chris was a true friend to many. He had a generous heart and wanted more than anything to make sure people were taken care of. He had an easygoing nature that drew people to him. When you became his friend, you knew you were making a friend for life. Those around him knew how much he loved them by the way he rolled his eyes and gave them a hard time about everything. He was happiest when his house, or the porch in Maple Springs, was full of friends and family, and everyone was enjoying themselves. Chris was a man called “best friend” by many, a true reflection of the spirit he brought to this world, and how he will be remembered. Survivors include his children: Christopher R. “Chris” (Haley) Sustar Jr. and Emily Sustar; grandchildren: Braxton and Carter; father: Roger Sustar; siblings: Alyson (Michael Caronchi) Scott and Jason Sisky; nephews and niece: Chase and Maxwell Scott, Mitchell and Juliana Sisky and many cousins. Preceding Chris in death is his mother: Judith "Judy" (Ulepic) Sustar. A celebration of Chris’s life will be held from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. In celebrating Chris’s life, the Brown’s game will be playing, tailgate food will be provided, and the family asks for you to wear your Browns, Guardians or Cavaliers apparel. A private family inurnment will take place at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon, OH at a later date.
