Genevieve R. "Gennie" (Grohal) Borcas

Genevieve R. “Gennie” (Grohal) Borcas, age 89 of Mentor, passed away Monday, June 5, 2023, with her family by her side. She was born May 28, 1934, in Windber, PA. Mrs. Borcas graduated from Windber High School in 1952 and married her beloved husband, Walter, a year later. After settling in Mentor, Ohio the couple started a family and moved into their home on Carole Drive, which Gennie cherished for 62 years. Her summer garage sales were a neighborhood hit. Gennie enjoyed cooking for family and friends, especially on holidays. She was renowned for her delicious stuffed cabbage, “porcupine” stew and applesauce, which she developed from her vast Polish cookbook collection. When not perfecting recipes in the kitchen, she was a fiercely competitive bingo player, a skilled crocheter, a humorous joke-teller and a devoted parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption. She loved regaling her family with stories of her younger years and traveling back home to visit relatives in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Borcas was a retired machine operator and proud union leader for Ohio Rubber, where she worked for more than 30 years. Survivors include her children: Christine Wrenn and David (Denise) Borcas; grandchildren: Jeneane Bower, Amanda (Vince) Dobrski, Matthew and Renee Borcas; and great-grandchildren: Jacob Wrenn, Sage and Brooke Dobrski. Preceding Genevieve in death were her husband: Walter S. Borcas; parents: John and Anna Grohal; sisters: Mary Corle, Carolyn Murphy, Josephine Marks, Eva Grohal, Katheryn Olsen and Patricia Durant; brothers: John, Frank, Stanley and Ted Grohal; great-grandchild: Joseph Flack and son-in-law: Stephan “Steve” A. Wrenn. Throughout her life, Gennie also enjoyed the company of many canine companions, including: Andre, Babbette, Blackjack, Mickey and Coco. The family will receive friends from 3:00–7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 12, 2023, at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 8560 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. Interment will take place in Mentor Cemetery.
