Joyce Ann Sas

Joyce Ann Sas (nee: Black), 80, of Mentor, passed away October 19, 2025 at Danbury of Mentor. She was born February 26, 1945 in Cleveland, to the late Ross R. and Joyce E. Black. After graduating from Valley Forge High School, Joyce earned her teaching degree from Wittenberg University. She went on to teach for nearly 40 years in the Euclid Public Schools as an elementary teacher, earning a master’s degree in education during that time. Her passion for teaching was evident to all who knew her, and she often spoke fondly of her students and their families during her retirement. Joyce developed a love of music early in life, a passion that brought her great joy throughout her 80 years. She began her musical journey as a child, learning to play the piano—an art she continued to enjoy for the rest of her life. Joyce shared her love of music with her students, often playing the piano and leading them in song. From school recitals to singing in her church choir as a young woman and performing in her retirement community, music was a constant presence. Cooking was another source of great joy for Joyce. She spent many hours planning family dinners, canning, baking cookies for the holidays, and making her famous holiday candy. Above all, Joyce loved and took great pride in being a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. Joyce is survived by her children, James T. Sas Jr., Jessica A. (Nicholas) Kynyk, and Jaclyn M. (Mark J. Stanton) Sas; grandchildren, Nicole and Ryan Kynyk, and Torren, Taylor, Tieghan, and Tatum Stanton; brothers, Jeffrey (Janet) Black and Ross (Linda) Black; and many nieces, nephews, and loving family and friends. Family and friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, Ohio 44060. A funeral service to conclude the gathering will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Joyce be honored through memorial contributions to the Ross & Joyce Black Scholarship Fund, Valley of Cleveland, ATTN: Brady Woodworth, 19885 Detroit Road, Box 103, Rocky River, OH 44116.
